8th Wonda: Special Tribute will be Live-streamed on Sound Sultan’s YouTube and Facebook Page.

On Saturday, July 24, 2021, Olanrewaju ‘Sound Sultan’ Fasasi will be celebrated by family, friends, colleagues and fans at the tribute events, happening simultaneously in four cities worldwide.

The Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive) had announced on Sunday, July 18, 2021, that it is collaborating with The Fasasi family, friends, colleagues and fans of Sound Sultan to host an evening of music, poetry, dance, comedy and talk in honour and celebration of Sound Sultan on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Terra Kulture, in Lagos.

The tribute event will be live-streamed on Sound Sultan’s Youtube and Facebook page for friends and fans who may not be able to attend at any of the physical locations across the world. Netng and Hip TV will also provide live updates from the event.

The Nigerian entertainer died of Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma (AITL) on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at 44. His death was a big shock to many Nigerians and people all over the world. Since then, members of the public have poured out memories and comments in memoriam of Sound Sultan. He is survived by his wife Farida, their three kids, and his siblings, including Baba Dee, who coached, mentored and supported him during a career that lasted over 20 years.  

The tribute events will hold at the following venues: 

United Kingdom: Alpha Lounge, 100 Lewisham High Street, London, United Kingdom, by 7 pm GMT. 

United States: Acoustic Garden, Brooklyn, New York by 2 pm EDT. 

Ace Atlanta 4300 Buford HWY NE #218, Atlanta, GA 30345 by 2 pm EDT

It’s a global celebration of life.

Sound Sultan’s life and legacy reach the four corners of the world – so the tribute event will be held simultaneously in four cities – Lagos, London, New York and Atlanta. The tribute in Lagos will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Terra Kulture by 7 pm.

Performances to honour the king of sound

The event is expected to feature performances from a long list of Sound Sultan’s friends, colleagues, as well as those who drew inspiration from him. It celebrates his life and times as family, fans, and friends will also relive his fond memories. 

Live virtual coverage

The tribute will be live-streamed on Sound Sultan’s YouTube and Facebook page. Live coverage will also be available on the Netng website and social media platforms. Hip TV will broadcast the events live.

Femi Falodun, the CEO of ID Africa, organisers of NECLive, in a statement said, “Sound Sultan’s physical form might have departed the world, but his unique voice, his conscious lyrics, his acts of kindness, his positive message and most of all, the wonderful memories he left us with will live forever in our hearts.”

The tribute is to celebrate Sound Sultan’s unique lifestyle that has continued to receive commendations since his death and his contributions to the development of Africa’s creative industry.

Sound Sultan, 44, died of Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma (AITL) on Sunday, July 11, 2021, and was buried the same day in Brooklyn, New York.

The extraordinary talents of Olanrewaju ‘Sound Sultan’ Fasasi and contributions to the development of creative talents in Nigeria and Africa will be celebrated and honoured on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at a special tribute event in Atlanta, the United States.

Friends, family and fans of Sound Sultan in Atlanta will converge at Ace Atlanta 4300 Buford HWY NE #218, Atlanta, GA 30345 by 2 pm EDT to celebrate his life.

The tribute is expected to celebrate his life and times and his contribution to the development of modern Nigerian music, basketball, and creative arts. 

Sound Sultan, 44, died of Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma (AITL) on Sunday, July 11, 2021, and was buried in Brooklyn, New York.

He rose to fame in the 1990s after winning the Benson & Hedges ‘Grab the mic’ Talent Hunt in 1999. His breakout single ‘Mathematics’ broke music charts at a time when the number of streams and views did not measure success and impact. He also won multiple awards.

With his multiple gifts of rapping, singing, songwriting, acting, comedy, basketball, and so much more, Sound Sultan won instant fans and cemented his place in the history of African music, and fans believe his legend will live on forever.

It has been nearly two weeks since the talented creative tragically died of Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma (AITL) and was buried in Brooklyn, New York.

In honour of his life, family members, friends, and fans will pay their respects to the multitalented creative, who touched countless lives in profound ways, at a tribute event holding simultaneously in four cities – Lagos, London, New York and Atlanta.

Family, friends, and fans of Olanrewaju ‘Sound Sultan’ Fasasi will gather in London, the United Kingdom, on Saturday, July 24, 2021, to immortalise the late singer and his glittering legacy as a man who used his multiple gifts to bless the world.

A multi-talented creative, Sound Sultan’s death at 44 sent shockwaves across Nigeria and other parts of the world on Sunday, July 11, 2021. He died of Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma (AITL).

With his multiple gifts of rapping, singing, songwriting, acting, comedy, basketball, and so much more, Sound Sultan won instant fans and cemented his place in the history of African, even global music.

His impact on Nigerian basketball was evident from how the national team D’Tigers paid special tribute to him and also dedicated their victory over the U.S basketball team to his memory.

In the days after his passing, fans, colleagues, the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, and governors of Lagos, Ogun and Oyo State have paid tribute, celebrating him for using his gift to educate and for nation-building.

Statement From Netng and NECLive on the Passing of Sound Sultan

Lagos, Nigeria, Sunday, July 11, 2021 – The editorial board of Nigerian Entertainment Today (Netng) and organizers of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive) are saddened by the passing of Nigerian music legend, Olanrewaju ‘Sound Sultan’ Fasasi.

Sound Sultan was an extraordinarily talented creative who blessed the world with his multiple gifts of rapping, singing, songwriting, acting, comedy, basketball and so much more.

In a remarkable career spanning over two decades, Sound Sultan produced an eclectic collection of evergreen music and art, and earned global acclaim for his beautiful melodies, poetic lyrics, memorable storytelling, powerful visuals, colourful stagecraft and deep social consciousness that made him a fan favourite and a source of inspiration to new generations of Nigerian creatives and performers.

His notable contributions to NECLive and the development of music, film, and his beloved basketball in Nigeria will forever be remembered and celebrated.

While we mourn his passing and commiserate with his family on this great loss, we will continue to celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the powerful works of art he left us with.
