#NECLive7: Tope Oshin’s Fireside Chat With Bolanle Olukanni

A fireside chat between Tope Oshin and Bolanle Olukanni at the Nigerian Entertainment Conference delved into discussions about Nigeria’s entertainment industry  as regards to Nollywood.

Tope Oshin shared her experience as one of the first female film directors in Nollywood and how she was encouraged to try her hands on directing by the late ace director Amaka Igwe .

She also shared the challenges she encountered while starting out and how rigid the industry was at that time towards female directors.

Bolanle Olukanni drew the conversation towards the difference between home videos that are shot within three days and films that are made for the cinemas over a long period of time.

Oshin said that both forms are important and that it was necessary for Africans to tell their own stories, citing her experience at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood where her movie, New Money was screened.

At NECLive 7Odun Eweniyi, the Co-Founder and COO of fintech start-up Piggyvest, gave a presentation titled “Democratizing Payments”.

Her presentation identified the importance of creative and entertainment practitioners using technology in order to be accessed by their audiences.

Fade Ogunro, founder of BookingsAfrica.com, spoke at the lead panel at NECLive 7.

The Chief Transformation Officer of MTN Nigeria, Mr Bayo Adekambi was part of the lead panel at Nigerian Entertainment Conference yesterday. He spoke on data and entertainment.

His presentation touched on global best practices and what is imperative for Nigeria. He also emphasised that “Music has gone beyond art, there is a strong blend of science.”

#NECLive7: Why Data Is Important For The Business Of Entertainment – ID Africa CEO Femi Falodun

Entertainment in Nigeria has been estimated to become a $9.9 billion industry by 2022 and what this means is that this huge amount of revenue is going to be plucked by those who position themselves to benefit the most from it.

Based on this information, the CEO of ID Africa, Mr Femi Falodun said that data will play a key role in determining the success of businesses in the entertainment industry.

He also said that entertainers and service providers should go beyond just doing the job and also provide feedback and report on the services they render. This will help to create data on the value of their services and also give them a tested process that they can replicate in future projects.

Registrations for the Nigerian Entertainment Conference, NECLive7 has closed

The April 19 deadline set for registrations for the Nigerian Entertainment Conference, NECLive7 has passed and the exercise has finally come to an end.

This also means that potential participants who didn’t register for the conference may not be allowed to be a part of the event.

The conference which will hold on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos is expected to be the best edition so far.

Key players in the Nigerian entertainment industry are billed to share ideas on how mobile, data, and consumer insights will change the dynamics of entertainment in the future.

With registrations closed, the focus has shifted to the main event and all roads now lead to #NECLive7.

#NECLive7: Nigerian Entertainment Conference Founder, Ayeni Adekunle To Make Bold Proposal For What African Entertainment Should Look Like

After seven years of what has now become a tradition for the entertainment industry, NECLive Founder, Ayeni Adekunle will makes a bold proposal for what the future of entertainment should look like in Africa, particularly Nigeria when the conference opens on April 24, 2019.

His proposal, Let’s Do Things Differently, will lead the discussions at NEC Live 7.

Earlier, he had written a piece that explained why the discussion about 2019 edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference would be on the Importance Of Data, And Mobile Technology To Creators And Consumers; And What It Means For The Future Of Entertainment  , tracing the journey of entertainment and media in Nigeria since 1996, while raising cogent queries about what the future holds.

“There’s an opportunity to build something that can truly transform the industry. And that’s what technology provides. From comedy to music, film, fashion, and media, how can we make sure that we build a future where our products are available to consumers where, when and how they want them? #NECLive7: Frank Donga, SLK, Sage Hasson, DNTMT, Theatre Hub Africa To Perform

Nigerian Entertainment Conference is a platform for having intensive discussions about the entertainment industry, it also includes lively performances as part of the day’s programme.

This year at NEC Live 7, performances to look forward to include Frank Donga, the job-seeking character created by comedian and actor Kunle Idowu– who makes a return to the conference after featuring as a panellist in 2018. He would be joined by SLK, a comedian whose brilliant use of puns via Instagram has made him a household name.

Foremost poet and spoken word artiste Sage Hasson will also be on stage to deliver thought-provoking rhymes while dance group Dance Na The Main Thing will show their expertly choreographed routines.

 

To provide yet another form of entertainment performance, drama group Theatre Hub Africa will present a play.
